The latest internet meme is T.A.C.O., meaning Trump Always Chickens Out. Currently this is in reference to tariffs. The idea is that Trump may eventually agree to tariffs that are lower than he first asked for. This brings up two points:
- It betrays a complete misunderstanding of Trump’s negotiating style. Say he wants a 20% tariff on something. If he asks for that, he may have to settle for 15%. But instead he asks for 50%. Then, after negotiations, he finally settles for 25%. This is not “chickening out.” It is asking for more, then settling for what he wanted in the first place. Or in this example, more than he wanted. This is so elementary that a wilted sprig of broccoli could understand it.
. - The leftists who use the T.A.C.O. meme hate everything Trump is doing. So why would they object if he pulls back and does not complete everything on his agenda? On the contrary, they should be pleased if, in fact, he did pull back. In other words, this complaint is not a real complaint, but a manufactured criticism of an imaginary fault. In short, more leftist malarkey.
