Shipping Company Bans Electric Vehicles From Its Ships

A Norwegian shipping company has banned electric vehicles, including hybrids, from its ships and ferries. An electric vehicle’s lithium ion battery pack caught fire, could not be extinguished with normal amounts of water, and caused the ship to sink. In another case, a sailor lost his life jumping into the open ocean to escape the flames.

Do you think, just possibly, that difficult-to-extinguish fires are not the way to aid the environment and improve air quality? Do you imagine, just conceivably, that a major breakthrough in batteries is needed to make electric vehicles safe enough for general use? Do you suppose, just debatably, that a free and open conversation about this question is long overdue?
