Vietnam Abandons Communism For Nationalism And Capitalism

Did we win the Vietnam War? Not exactly. Communism lost. In all the years since 1975, the Vietnamese tried to make communism work, an ideology they imported from France. That is, communism is a foreign idea imposed on them by a colonial power.

But they failed, just as the Soviet Union failed. They couldn’t make communism work. It works – barely – only for primitive tribes, where each family has its own hut, but all farm land and all hunting land is held in common. This is not the fault of the Vietnamese. Communism just doesn’t work.

China was starving until it adopted state-run capitalism, what we used to call fascism. Mussolini would feel right at home in the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. After all, he began as a socialist. The Italian name is Benedetto, Benedict. His parents named him the Spanish name Benito, after the Mexican revolutionary Benito Juarez. Being at home with Mussolini is not a reason to boast.

Yes, Vietnam is no longer communist, even in name. The Chinese cling to the name, if not the reality. What will Mayor Mamdani cling to? Stay tuned.

But don’t yammer to me about “True communism hasn’t been tried yet.” It has been tried, in many places by many peoples. It doesn’t work, no matter how much leftists wish it to work. But who knows? Maybe Mamdani will make it work. And maybe pigs will fly. But even if they do, watch out for the falling pig poop. There is sure to be plenty.
