Mayor Mamdani Visits Young Man Who Attacked NYPD Officers With Kitchen Knife

Young man, perhaps schizophrenic, becomes violent at home, runs around with large kitchen knife. Police arrive, repeatedly order him to drop it, then shoot him. He is in critical condition.

The family complains that they wanted paramedics, not police. But if paramedics had responded first, they would have stood back and called for emergency police assistance.

Neither paramedics nor police signed up to be knife-training dummies. “Stab me first, THEN we react” does not appear in either the paramedic manual or the police manual. “Go home tonight” does appear. Or it should. No matter what Mayor Mamdani says.
