Ignore Overdose Deaths, Exaggerate Gun Deaths

Check out this graph of US deaths from the current Morbidity & Mortality Weekly report:

What do you see? Firearm deaths are slowly falling in recent years, with some bumps. But drug overdoses are rising sharply. So what is the response of our government? Propose severe restrictions on possession of firearms by law-abiding citizens, but at the same time open the border to drug runners and human traffickers. In other words, attack the lesser problem vigorously, while making the greater problem even worse.

To paraphrase the late William Safire, is this due to ignorance or apathy? I don’t know and I don’t care. It is counter-productive. It is wrong. We can only hope it is not intentional, but it is as destructive as if it were intentional.

The next time you discuss gun control and open borders with progressives, show them this graph. If they persist in their gun control and open borders beliefs, you know their position is based on emotion, not reason; on propaganda, not facts.
