LATimes opposes Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Sheriff is elected for four-year term, and like all elected officials can also be recalled by popular vote. But Times dislikes his independent streak and says he should be “accountable.” Sheriff opposes DA Gascón’s policy of releasing accused without bail and releasing convicts from prison and jail.
Times praises LAPD Chief Michel Moore for supporting Gascón. Of course he does. Chief is appointed by mayor and can be removed easily. Times calls this “accountable.” So to the elite, “accountable” means accountable to them but not to the people. Couldn’t be clearer. Their notion of government is oligarchy, not democracy.
