The idiot prosecutor in the Rittenhouse trial pointed the defendant’s rifle at the jury with his finger on the trigger. The action is closed. There is no red tape protruding from the weapon to show it is incapable of firing. It shouldn’t even be in the courtroom in that potentially dangerous condition, much less pointed at anyone.
The prosecutor apparently was trying to make jurors understand how it felt to have a firearm pointed at them. But instead, he surely antagonized them. The whole point of the prosecution was to show that firearms are dangerous and not to by treated as toys. But then he did exactly that. If I were a juror, I would hope I would have the courage to yell, “Take your finger off the trigger and stop pointing that gun at me! Don’t you know brandishing a gun is a crime?”
Yes, I’d be kicked off the jury, probably cited for contempt of court, and likely a mistrial would be declared. But telling an idiot he is an idiot would be worth it. One so rarely gets the opportunity to do so.
