Mexican President Lopez Obrador is partly right. The US is responsible for being a huge vacuum cleaner, sucking up every particle of drug and looking for more.
But he is mainly wrong. If I am an addict and take too much heroin, it is an overdose death. But if I am a student and think I am taking Vicodin but instead get fentanyl, it is poisoning, a homicide. Fentanyl enters the US from Mexico. It is made either in China, or in Mexico often from Chinese chemicals. The cartels, and their allies in the Mexican and US governments, are guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. Smooth talk can’t change that.
