If my SUV hits a car, the extra 1000 lbs of steel protects me but is not good for the car. But if my electric car hits a gasoline car, the 1000 battery is dead weight – it’s not good for the other car but doesn’t protect me either. Rising traffic deaths may be due in part to this.
