Are We Still A First-World Nation?

Name one First World nation other than the US – assuming the US is still a First World nation – where the leader of the political opposition was arrested. No, not a minor politician arrested for public drunkenness, but the leader of the opposition arrested for clearly political actions.
• UK
• France
• Belgium
• Germany
• Never happened.
That’s right, it happened only in the US.

In First World nations, we defeat political opponents at the polls. In banana republics and tin-pot dictatorships – and the US – we arrest and jail political opponents. We have not yet reached the level of Putin’s Russia, where dissidents are thrown out of windows, or fed tea cakes laced with polonium-210. But give us time.

TIP: Say you oppose Putin and get up to go to the bathroom. If you don’t need to turn on the light because of the green glow you emit, get your affairs in order, fast.
