During the Vietnam War, an American officer is said to have remarked, “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.” Whether or not he actually said it, the idea is worth considering: A drive so strong that it seems to justify destroying the very thing you want to preserve. Do the multiple indictments in multiple locations for dubious reasons say more about Trump’s wrongdoing, or about the unbridled zeal of those who want to get Trump?

A few years from now, will we boast, “We had to  destroy our legal system in order to save it from Trump?”
