In high school algebra I learned about vectors, and how they apply in daily life. If you want to go north, and I want to go east, we can compromise and go northeast. Neither of us will be entirely satisfied, but we will get part of what we want. But if you want to go north, and I want to go south, the resultant is zero. We go nowhere.
Similarly, if you claim a piece of land, and I also claim it, we can divide it and compromise. But if you claim a piece of land, and I want you dead, no compromise is possible. Either you remain alive on your land, or you are buried in it. How do you compromise with advocates of genocide? How do you compromise with those who hold as a religious principle that your whole people must be exterminated?
“To be or not to be” is not a question of compromise. Either you be or you don’t be. ‒ Golda Meir
They’re burning the Israeli flag. But be patient. They’ll be burning the American flag soon enough.
