“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Wait, what?

• From the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, that is, all of Israel. When they say “occupied territory” they mean the entire nation.

• Free? Not politically free. Hamas and Hezbollah have no intention of founding a democracy. No, free of Jews. The Nazis used two words here: judenfrei meant free of Jews, while judenrein meant cleansed of Jews, as if they were a contaminant. The worst of the demonstrators seem to imply the latter meaning.

At first Biden spoke strongly of his support for Israel. His handlers assumed this remained the majority position of Americans. But now the wind appears to have shifted, at least among noisy people. And Biden’s handlers surely have their moistened fingers sensing the wind. Basic principles based on Judeo-Christian values are not their strong point. But what the quiet people believe is something else entirely.

What is that music I hear in the distance? It seems to be getting closer.
