The Mufti and der Führer

Various Arab leaders made contact with the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s, in the hope that a German victory would mean the expulsion of the British from the Middle East. Among these was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who in 1938 fled arrest by the British and spent World War II as a guest of Hitler in Berlin. Reportedly the Mufti urged Hitler not to expel the Jews from Europe, which was Hitler’s original plan, but to exterminate them. Here they are in friendly conversation. The exterminationist ideology of Hamas thus has a long and ignoble pedigree.

Dr. King wasn’t the only one with a dream. Adolf had a dream too. Although it was a nightmare, Hitler’s dream has proved more long-lasting and universally popular. This is too bitter to contemplate, but it is undeniably true.
