Democrat Cenk Uygur, among others, declares that Jesus was a Palestinian, since Bethlehem is now in the Palestinian territories and not in Israel proper. The name Palestine dates only from the 2nd century AD, that is, after Jesus died. During the life of Jesus, the land was called Judea, the Roman province of the Jews. Listen to the Gospel reading from Luke on Christmas Eve. But after the Romans put down the Jewish revolt, they wanted to eradicate all memory of the Jews, so they renamed the land Syria Palestina, the Syria of the Philistines. So there was no Palestine, or Palestinians, during Jesus’ lifetime. Nazis claimed Jesus was an Aryan. Anti-Semites typically claim Jesus was not Jewish. The New Testament would disagree.
