• Ever notice that we have anti-Americans, anti-British, anti-Muslims, anti-Christians, and a host of haters of other ethnic and religious groups? But we have antisemites. We used to have anti-Semites, which I still use, but which Word now flags as misspelled. Why? Is not Semite a specific group of peoples and languages? The change is subtle, but not trivial. If you can be a hypersensitive snowflake, so can I.
• Ever notice that Jews are often referred to, especially in writing, as “of the Jewish faith” or even “Hebrew.” The reason is obvious. Over 2000 years of persecution and discrimination, the word “Jew” has become a sort of cuss word. Thus when anti-Semites wrecked a girls’ high school basketball game in Yonkers, New York, the bigots yelled “I support Hamas you f***ing Jew.” They felt no need to use “kike” or other pejoratives, which in fact are going out of style. There is no need for them, because “Jew” is itself an insult. That tells an awful lot.
Just sayin’.
