The Door Plug Bolts Weren’t There

Report in Wall Street Journal: Unlike door plug bolts in other airliners that were loose, the bolts in the Alaska Airlines plane weren’t there at all – they were never installed in the first place. How to prove a negative is not clear. But this prestigious publication went out on a limb to make this charge.

There was a Broadway show and movie, “Li’l Abner,” where a sarcastic song declared, “The country’s in the very best of hands.” We need a sequel. We could title it, “They said cheer up, things could be worse. And sure enough, things got worse.” The lyrics could go:

The door plug blew off
The plane depressurized
The pilots were diverse
Lucky we’re still in the skies
