As Dennis Prager points out, leftists would hate conservatives just as much if Trump were carried off by space aliens in a flying saucer. Leftists would hate Israelis (and Jews) just as much if Netanyahu fell off a bridge. Trump and Netanyahu are merely lightning rods that attract the hatred for all to see.

They serve as excuses for the hatred. “I support Israel and the right of the Jews to exist in their own country, but I can’t stand Netanyahu.” “I respect the real conservatives of the past, but I hate Trump.” How convenient to have excuses for bigotry and hatred based on race, religion, or political affiliation. But if they weren’t there, it wouldn’t matter – the hatred and bigotry would still be there. Only the excuses would be gone.
