Sen. Chuck Schumer, also known as Upchuck Schumer (D,NY), orders Israelis to kick out Netanyahu, who has been their prime minister longer than anyone else in their history. Would he order the French to get rid of President Macron or the Germans to oust Chancellor Scholz? No, that would be seen universally as intolerable hubris and clumsy interference in the politics of independent nations.

But why the difference? Is the one Jewish nation on earth somehow inferior to other nations? Are Jews somehow unworthy to choose their own leader? Those notions belong on the lips of right-wing anti-Semites, not a liberal Democrat. Yet here we are.

As Golda Meir said: To be or not to be is not a question of compromise. Either you be or you don’t be.

Schumer implies that Israel could make peace if it wanted to. But read the charter of Hamas. Israel’s enemies want Israelis dead. Not living on a smaller Israel. Dead. How do you make peace with those who want you dead?

A “peace” in which only one side renounces violence is called surrender. Surrender when the other side wants you dead is called suicide. A “friend” who suggests you commit suicide is very far from being a friend.
