When the Supreme Court issued its school desegregation decisions in the 1950s, some people disagreed. Gov. Orval Faubus swore to use the Arkansas National Guard and “stand in the schoolhouse door” at Central High School in Little Rock. But he was dealing with President Eisenhower, who had commanded the entire European Theater in World War II. Ike federalized the Guard and sent his own general to command it. Then he sent units of the 101st Airborne from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. No one was stupid enough to stand in their way.

But things have changed. Oh boy, have they changed. The White House is occupied not by a 5-star general who respected the Court, but by a 5-star jerk who insults the justices to their faces during the State of the Union address. What if Biden simply tells the Court what it can do with its Free Speech decisions?

Our beautiful edifice of human rights, built up over 2½ centuries, will be seriously, perhaps fatally, injured. The congressional Democrats won’t impeach and remove Biden, no matter what he does. He’s their guy. The congressional Republicans will do what they do best: talk a good game.

But note that this threat to our liberty comes not from that awful Donald Trump and his crazed MAGA extremists, but from good old Uncle Joe Biden and his liberal Democrats. File under I for Ironic.
