The President of France is Immanuel Macron, not “Manny.” The Chancellor of Germany is Olaf Scholtz, not “Oley.” So why is the Prime Minister of Israel not Benjamin or Binyamin, but “Bibi”? If your friends use a diminutive for you, it is a term of endearment. But if your enemies do, it’s a sign of contempt.
