Falsus In Uno, Falsus In Omnbus

Legal maxim: Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. False in one thing, false in everything. If a witness is caught in a lie, you can disbelieve everything he says.

The government relies on two key witness to make the case that Trump committed business-document fraud in the Stormy Daniels cover-up case:

  1. Stormy Daniels, who at various times declared she had a sexual relation with Donald Trump, and at various other times that she did not have a sexual relation with Donald Trump. And what is more, she asked for and received money for doing both. Now there’s a good deal: Getting paid to say yes, and then getting paid to say no.
  2. Michael Cohen, who as an attorney took an oath to keep secret the privileged communications with his clients. But then he secretly recorded his conversations with Trump and gave them to Trump’s enemies. And then he lied under oath about the matter, and admitted he stole many thousands of dollars from his client.

Would you call these witnesses to support your case? You would not, unless you knew your case was too weak to stand on its own and needed all the help it could get. Of course, this is a tacit admission that your case is weak. But to see this, an aware, intelligent public is required. Otherwise, we just have apathetic onlookers shrugging their shoulders at the Stormy-Cohen Show.

But it is not a circus. It is election interference of the worst sort. It is corruption of our legal system by politics. I was going to say our justice system, but we long ago stopped using that description. We reluctantly came to admit it is just a legal system. And now it’s hardly even that. It is really just legal theater, made to impress a gullible audience. The classes should be moved from the law school to the department of theater arts.

The next justice of the Supreme Court should be appointed not from Harvard or Yale, but from Hollywood. Then the Stormy-Cohen Show could be a real zinger. It might even go to series and begin streaming. The stripper character could provide some interesting scenes, but the lawyer character is the one who is really obscene.
