Reaction To The Debate: Schadenfreude

Schadenfreude: (German) Joy derived from the misfortune of others.

You knew Joe Biden had the reputation of not being terribly bright. You knew President Obama warned us never to underestimate Biden’s ability to f**k things up. You knew Biden had a habit of making up stories with him as the hero (“arrested while visiting Nelson Mandela in prison”). And recently, you knew he showed increasing signs of senility, if not frank dementia.

But you still put him up for president, and now have him run for reelection with a vice president who also cannot form a coherent sentence, but does not have the excuse of advanced age to explain it. It is said that Kamala Harris mistakenly hired a salad chef for a speech writer.

You made up your ticket. You set up this situation. Now you must deal with it. Schadenfreude is nothing to boast about. It may well be a sin. But I plead guilty. After the debate my face was stiff from smiling too broadly.
