Let me tell you about two brothers. The elder brother was well respected. He was a family man whom people looked to for advice. Everyone said he was calm and had good judgment. Even more, he was an eloquent speaker.

The younger brother was unmarried, not a family man. People rarely sought him out for advice, because he was not known for good judgment or calmness. Some said he had a stammer or a lisp, but all agreed he was not a good speaker. To top things off, he had an anger-management problem. One day he lost his temper to the point that he killed a man, and had to flee for his life.

Yet which brother did the Lord choose to lead His people out of slavery to freedom? Which brother did the Almighty pick to receive the Ten Commandments? That’s right, the younger brother, Moses.

The Lord did not see things the way we did. We saw an ill-tempered young man who had trouble controlling himself. But perhaps the Lord saw a man who could not stand cruelty. When Moses saw a slave driver beating a slave without mercy, he did not grumble and turn away, as others did. He struck the slave driver hard enough to kill him. Perhaps the Lord saw his boundless hatred of slavery as a virtue, not a vice. Perhaps Moses shared the Almighty’s hatred of slavery.

Did the Lord spare Donald Trump’s life in that Pennsylvania field? Did He know that Trump’s work isn’t done yet? Has He chosen Trump to finish it? I don’t know. I can’t know. But I do know He will choose whom He pleases, regardless of how flawed and imperfect that person may seem to us.
