Bloomberg: Democrats Unveil Nomination Rules, Virtual Vote as Harris Surges
• Party sets rules for ballot, rules out fully in-person vote.
• Virtual voting may crown Harris if no one else hits threshold.
• Texas’ DNC delegates vote 260-6 to back Kamala Harri
Democratic Party big shots have ruled out in-person voting by delegates at the upcoming convention. No more “Texas, the Lone Star State, votes all 266 votes for its native son and the next President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson.” Yes, it was corny. But it was also majestic. It was democracy in action, in public. We all saw it.
But now we look forward to virtual voting by delegates to choose our next President. So in effect, we have virtual voting by virtual delegates to select a virtual President.
But maybe we should be grateful to have AI. Artificial intelligence is better than no intelligence at all, as witness the outgoing director of the Secret Service, Kim Cheatle. No recordings of the radio communications among Trump’s protection team? Really? Giving Trump a reduced protection detail although he has the highest threat level? Are you serious? Yes, I’m dead serious. A bullet in the head serious.
As they say on the TV show “Law and Order,” this doesn’t pass the smell test. In fact, if you want real law and order, you have to demand a smell test. And if something doesn’t pass, you have to say, “You’re fired!” no matter who it is. Even a virtual President.
