Thanks, Dan Bongino, for reminding us that Trump was not the only shooting victim that day in Pennsylvania. Two spectators were put in the hospital, and Corey Comparatore, retired firefighter, was put in the ground. Typically, he died shielding his wife and two daughters from gunfire that should never have occurred but for the apathy and incompetence of the Secret Service.

At least we hope it was apathy and incompetence, and not something even worse: “Don’t watch the s.o.b. too closely, if some nutjob lets off a few rounds, so much the better.” At some point, incompetence becomes indistinguishable from malice. But from the victim’s point of view, what’s the difference?

From the point of view of Cory Comparatore’s wife and children, there is no difference. Their idea of a man is someone ready at a moment’s notice to risk his life for his family and his community – quite the opposite of the jerks in charge of security at the rally. If America survives as a free nation, and that’s a big if, it will be because of citizens like Cory Comperatore, and despite the bureaucratic jerks. Rest in peace, sir, we’ll remember.
