Time Zones For The Moon? Gosh, Thanks!

NASA working on creating standard time zone for Moon that could be used elsewhere in solar system.

This report is revealing, but not for the reason you might think. Yes, it would be convenient to lay out time zones for the moon. This suggests we will be needing them soon. We won’t.

We first got to the moon in 1969. We last got to the moon in 1972. We can’t get there now and have no prospect of getting there soon. In fact, we can’t even get to the International Space Station to rescue our two astronauts.

The Boeing Starliner was too unreliable to trust. The Ukraine war makes bumming a ride with the Russians impossible. So we must wait for February 2025 for Elon Musk’s Space X to save our people. We hope that our two astronauts won’t get in trouble before then. But as they say, hope is not a plan.

But don’t despair. All is not lost. NASA is busy laying out time zones for the moon. But why not time zones on Pluto? We can’t get there, either.

This is an example of Murphy’s Law of Substitution: If you can’t do your primary job, try doing something else that’s easier. Maybe no one will notice.

No, we did notice. The top leadership of NASA, like the top leadership of the Pentagon, the FBI, the Secret Service, and many other federal departments, needs to be replaced by people who actually care about doing their jobs, not merely keeping their jobs. Lives depend on it. Maybe ours.

NASA and some other bureaucracies have become charades. We are to guess what they are pretending to do. Charades make an amusing party game, but a really lousy government.
