Today I am wearing a T-shirt from Emerson Knives. Ernest Emerson got his start making knives for SEAL Team Six, so you can see what kind of guy he is. The shirt shows a suppressed, tattered version of the American flag, with the motto “Beat To Hell, Still There.”

The motto is intended to apply to our flag, and all it has been through. It also applies to me, three times in fact. And it surely applies to Donald J. Trump.

I disagree with the meme that calls Trump “bulletproof.” No one is bulletproof. The point is that Trump knows from first-hand experience that he is not bulletproof – but is still there. In fact, he is in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot and came within 1 or 2 centimeters of having his brains splattered over the first three rows of spectators.

That’s why I will be wearing a shirt like this until Election Day. It says what I want to say better than I could. Only those who came close to death can fully appreciate the value of life. But all of us can resolve to use however much of it remains to do whatever good we can.
