The Sheepdogs Are Back

Dave Grossman is a soldier, a psychologist, and an author. His book “On Killing” was a best seller. He popularized the division of people into three groups: Sheep, wolves who prey on the sheep, and sheepdogs who protect the sheep. Dan Bongino updates this idea to the current situation.

As is always the case, many people are sheep. They allow criminals and would-be tyrants to prey on them, and do little but complain. Even the complaining they do quietly, for fear they will irritate a wolf. Then we have the wolves, from street criminals to bureaucrats who harass parents complaining to school boards, to “health” officials who kill pet squirrels.

And finally we have the sheepdogs, blessed with the strength to take on the wolves. A few are leaders like Trump, who fight the wolves regardless of the risks and difficulties. But many more of us are ordinary sheepdogs, who feel intimidated and lonely because the mainstream media depict us as outliers and oddballs.

But once those sheepdogs see the lead dog not just get away with fighting the wolves but actually win those fights, they take heart and take up the fight themselves. And here we are. Is that growling I hear in the distance? Yes, it surely is. If I were a wolf, I’d be worried.
