Washington Examiner: “Federal agencies want more authority from Congress to deal with drones.”
As countless jokes begin, now let me get this straight:
• We can’t say where the drones come from, or who (or what) made them, or what their purpose is, or why they seem to be interested in military installations, or whether they carry explosives or pathogens, or even whether they originate on this planet. Yet we can reassure the public that they are harmless.
• We can arrest you and send you to prison for years for entering the wide-open doors of the Capitol, in some cases ushered in by police officers, never warned that this is an illegal assembly, and unaccompanied by signs saying “Closed, Keep Out.” We can read your emails and texts and eavesdrop on your phone without a warrant whenever we please. We can burst into your home without a warrant and point guns at your wife and children. We can maintain the most costly military in the world. Yet we lack the ability or the authority to shoot down unidentified objects flying in restricted airspace.
