Four Coyotes In Hollywood
No, not a film, and surely not a comedy.
Neighborhood Association member posts video of four adult coyotes running free in the middle of the street in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. Comments range from “how frightening!” to sympathy for these “beautiful animals” who were merely looking for dinner. Unstated was that dinner might include small dogs, cats, or occasionally a treat: small children. Why have outdoor cats nearly disappeared in parts of Los Angeles? One might find similar advice to New York subway riders to wear fire-resistant clothing.
As Jeff Cooper used to say, “Unarmed men and unarmed nations can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.” The answer to the coyote problem in Los Angeles is similar to the answer to the homicidal arsonist problem in New York: U.S. Pistol, Cal. .45, M1911A1. It was the answer a century ago, and it still is the answer as we enter 2025. Shoot one, and the others will get the message really fast.
