Jon Stewart Cuts Self Condemning Cuts
There used to be a motor oil ad that encouraged maintaining your vehicle. The mechanic said, “Pay me now or pay me later.” Well, “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart just did him one better.
Stewart was ranting against the spending cuts being engineered by Elon Musk and his DOGE people. Stewart got so emotional that he pounded his fist on the desk, accidentally smashing a coffee cup and cutting his hand rather badly.
A believer in karma might say, “Cut spending now or cut yourself later.” A believer in reality might say, “If you can’t find billions of waste and fraud in the federal government to cut, perhaps you are in on the waste and fraud.” A believer in emotional calm might say, “Act rationally and stop ranting like an idiot.”
Remember the old legal maxim: “If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If neither is on your side, pound on the table.” But as Jon Stewart discovered, pounding on the table has a definite down-side. Maybe not a whole trillion in cuts. Maybe just a few hundred billion in cuts might not be such a bad thing. Maybe Elon isn’t entirely wrong. Ya think?
