California Here I Come – Not

Thinking of moving to the “Golden State”? Thinking of making all of America more like California? Consider these two news items, which came out on the same day:

• California Democrats, who control the legislature, introduce a bill making self-defense more difficult. Specifically, it inhibits your right to defend property, presumably including your home. And it requires that the force you use must be proportionate to the threat. So if someone kicks in my door at 3 am and brandishes a knife, may I draw my gun, or must I rush to the kitchen and select a knife of similar length? And no, I am not joking.

• A Los Angeles resident called 911 to report a residential burglary. He was kept waiting 59 minutes before reaching a human being. When police arrived, they told him this is not unusual, and some people wait on hold for 2 hours with serious emergencies. For them, 911 does not exist.

Each one of these news reports is worrisome itself. But taken together, they are frightening. If they don’t frighten you, maybe you just don’t understand the situation. The lives of yourself and your loved ones depend on you. Those in charge of the California state government couldn’t care less.
