Poking A Bear

Poking A Bear

First the geniuses made Poland a NATO member, then they made Georgia a NATO partner, then they talked about making Ukraine a member. Their stated aim was to block Russia from expanding. But the result was to make it feel surrounded. Poking a bear with a stick rarely ends well. Making a paranoid feel surrounded never ends well.
.
But the ideologues and war-profiteers were not satisfied. The ideologues wanted a bigger ego boost from edging closer to war. The profiteers wanted more profit. So they got a bigger stick and poked the bear even harder.
.
The idiots remembered how Russia bogged down in Afghanistan and left ignominiously. But they forgot that so did we. They also forgot that when Mother Russia itself was invaded, even Hitler’s Wehrmacht, arguably the greatest fighting force ever assembled, bogged down and was slowly ground to shreds.
.
They forgot all this, assuming their elite university educations taught it to them in the first place. They allowed, or encouraged, or aided, or supplied, or actually carried out the massive drone attack on Russia. What, exactly, did they expect Putin to do? If he appeared weak or indecisive, his own generals would take him out, and I don’t mean to lunch.
.
Tyrants who feel their grip on power slipping can do dangerously irrational things. When Russian troops surrounded Berlin, Hitler reportedly committed suicide. But not before he ordered the Berlin subway flooded to delay the invaders a few hours. In doing so, he drowned tens of thousands of Germans hiding there. Can anyone doubt that if he had nukes, he would have used them?
.

Poking a bear is a dangerous game. Poking a paranoid bear armed with nukes can be suicidal. Stay tuned.
