You Can’t Get Socialism Right

A Cuban immigrant is overwhelmed by the abundance at Costco. Apologists for communism and socialism often say that true socialism hasn’t been tried yet. Really?

Lenin and Stalin couldn’t get it right. The East Bloc couldn’t get it right. Mao couldn’t get it right. Maduro couldn’t get it right. And now Fidel couldn’t get it right either. Will today’s socialists like Zohran Mamdani, the possible next mayor of New York, get it right?

Did you consider the possibility that socialism is like wife beating? You can’t get it right, because it is inherently wrong. You can only mitigate its mistakes. With wife beating, you can use a smaller stick. With socialism, you can allow a bit of free enterprise.

But no matter what you do, it can’t fill the shelves of Costco or your local supermarket. Even if you try really hard to get it right.
