“You Must Be The Other Guy”
In the film “The Departed,” a police sergeant played by Mark Walberg criticizes another officer. The officer angrily responds, “Who the hell are you?”
The sergeant replies, “Who am I? I’m the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy.”
And there it is in three brief sentences: Why they hate Trump. He’s the guy who does his job. He’s the guy who continues to fulfill his campaign promises. You may disagree with what he is doing, but you must admit that it is what he said he would do.
He’s not Obama, who talked so smoothly that his speeches were Simonized. He talked constructively but acted divisively. Nor is he Biden, whose actions were scripted by others, and signed by an autopen.
He’s not the other guy.
Trump is hated not because he is breaking his campaign promises, but because he is fulfilling them. He is hated because he’s the guy who does his job. And we’re not used to that.
Trump’s approval numbers are going up, not down, despite the Epstein Files, wherever they are. Ultimately I predict that the Epstein Files will join the Russia Collusion story and the Pee Pee Tapes in well-deserved obscurity. Most Americans want the guy who does his job. They aspire to be that guy themselves.
