Why One-Way Social Distancing?

Social media are filled with people who declare – no, boast – that they have cut off contact with relatives and friends for political reasons. They no longer speak to parents, or grandparents, or allow their grandparents to see their grandchildren. But in the great majority of cases, they are progressives who cut off contact with conservatives, not the other way around Why?

A colleague called me a “Nazi” because I expressed mildly conservative views. A 10-year friend told my wife she and her husband could no longer eat dinner with us because I am a “Nazi.” And this is despite the fact that we are Jewish, and my uncle was murdered in the Holocaust. This goes beyond ironic and reaches the level of deranged.

Worst of all, we know a therapist who discovered her client voted for Trump, and cut off all communication without warning. No terminal session. No referral to other therapists. No reply to phone messages, although the client might have been in crisis. This is totally unethical and should have resulted in suspension of the therapist’s license for client abandonment.

So my question is, why is this almost always one-way? Why do not conservatives act equally narcissistic, selfish, and angry?

1) Leftism makes people more narcissistic, selfish, and angry.
2) Narcissistic, selfish, angry people tend to become leftists.
3) Both of the above.
