Feds Take Over D.C. Police

President Trump takes control of Washington, D.C. police, to be aided by National Guard troops. Leftists claim D.C. crime is down, but everyday experience of residents is different, and homicide figures speak for themselves.

Trump’s action is possible because of the Home Rule Act, which reversed longstanding federal control of D.C. and allowed home rule, but had an escape clause for situations where home rule was not working.

Leftists claim the crime rate in D.C. is going down. This is apparently either (1) a lie, or (2) a result of people not reporting crimes like assault or shoplifting, because they know the police will do nothing. This is Orwellian: “The crime rate is going down because the crime rate is going up.”

In any case, the feds are taking over police powers in our nation’s capital. One can argue about many things, but that people will feel safer is beyond dispute. The only remaining question is, why would this upset some people?
