Another Attack On Caitlin Clark
Jason Whitlock, normally a moderate conservative commentator, goes off the rails discussing Catlin Clark’s virtual disappearance from the media after her recent leg injury. He questions whether she has “tapped out”. That the lack of media interest is due to the fact that she is not playing does not occur to him. Some other problems:
• I thought Whitlock meant she was “tapping out” after a campaign of deliberate injuries against her. Recall the fingernail in the eye. with a scratch on the eyelid and a black eye. Recall the second poke in the eye. Recall the hit to the head with a ruptured eardrum and blood in her ear canal. In all of these instances, no foul was called, and no concussion protocol was followed.
• But Whitlock fails to mention these serious physical attacks. He believes Clark is “tapping out” because of emotional pressure from leading the league and getting multiple endorsements. In other words, she’s just a woman trying to be a man, not an exceptional woman athlete trying to excel despite unpunished physical abuse.
• Whitlock goes so far as to claim that MMA star Ronda Rousey quit after a bad knockout because she was depressed. No, she retired at age 29 because she suffered another concussion, after a series of concussions during her Olympic judo career. She didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Was she not entitled to be depressed in those circumstances? Was the depression a result of having to retire, not the other way around? For that matter, name one male athlete who was NOT depressed after being forced to retire for physical reasons.
• Now we have Sophie Cunningham, Clark’s team mate hired as an “enforcer” to protect Clark. An opponent “accidentally fell” against Cunningham’s leg, rupturing the medial collateral ligament in her right knee. Cunningham is out for the season and faces surgery. Is she also just an emotional woman unable to handle stress? Or is her medial collateral ligament unable to handle excess lateral force? This is not a rhetorical question.
Note to Jason Whitlock and editors of The Blaze: If Caitlin Clark retires, she would not be “tapping out” because she is depressed. Only a closet misogynist would suggest that. She would be “tapping out” because she is tired of physical abuse uncontrolled by incompetent or corrupt officials. I’m tired of it as well. So would you be if you had a microgram of fairness.
