What Went Wrong?

You want to find out what has gone wrong with us? Just watch these two videos of the movie scene where the Titanic hits the iceberg. The first is from 1953, titled “Titanic.” When the lookouts spot the iceberg, one says, “Jesus, Mary.”

In the 1997 film also titled “Titanic,” the lookout says, “F*ck me.” We cannot know what they really said. But the difference is striking. In the first version, the man instinctively utters a brief, informal prayer, perhaps conscious that he might die. In the second, he utters only a curse.

In all the movies and TV shows you have seen in the last few years, have any of the hundreds of frightened, injured, dying, or grieving characters ever prayed? The Lord’s Prayer? An Act of Contrition? The Shema? Anything at all? Hardly ever.

There it is. We took religion out of the public square, and replaced it with politics, or environmentalism, or a Woke agenda, or more likely, with nothing at all. So the internet is filled with crowds looting stores, and people beating each other’s brains out. Do you think, just possibly, that we made a mistake?
