Violent Crime Is Assault On Civilization
Violent crime is not just an assault on a person. It is an assault on civilization itself. The Brits used to call it “disturbing the king’s peace.” A highway robber was seen as assaulting the king. So he was declared an “outlaw,” that is, outside the protection of the law. Anyone could deal with him as they saw fit.
.
No, we can’t return to those days. But we need to view violent crime as an attack on all of us, meriting the most severe penalties. Cashless bail? Catch and release? How are these working out? New York, Chicago, Los Angeles? Not so well?
.
So admit it and try something else: Law enforcement, for example.
