Trump Visits The U.N.

• Trump and Melania stepped onto an escalator at the U.N. It suddenly stopped, causing the First Lady to lurch forward slightly. If she were older or had poor balance, she might have fallen on her face on the steel steps. But she and the President mounted the stalled escalator without further problems.

Of course, if it had started up again, they would have lurched back and risked falling backward and being seriously injured.

Note that the Secret Service, rather than surrounding the Trumps as they were stuck on a motionless escalator, did nothing visible.

• Trump’s teleprompter malfunctioned. Never at a loss for words, he spoke extemporaneously. Could Biden or Kamala have done that?

• As Trump spoke, the volume in the press room was turned down. When he finished, the volume went back up.

When U.N. headquarters was being constructed in New York City, some complained that the international organization should be located in a small, neutral nation like Switzerland, not in a great power. But that is a situation that can be easily remedied.

You want to publicly disrespect a man and his wife? You want to endanger, even slightly, a woman in front of her husband? May I suggest that Donald J. Trump should not be your first choice.

Trump got his formerly red hair from his mother, Mary Ann MacLeod Trump, whose first language was Gaelic. That’s all you really need to know.

I predict that proposals will soon be made to reduce our U.N. contributions, and perhaps even to move the U.N. to Switzerland or elsewhere. There are some people you can mess with. And there are some people you can’t.
