Making Fun Of Anne Frank’s Diary?
News From Variety:
‘Slam Frank,’ Off-Broadway Show Reimagining Anne Frank’s Story as Genderqueer, Afro-Latin Hip-Hop Musical, Extends Through December
Getting old is no picnic, but no one wants to die young. At age 25, I had a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver on a freeway, so I speak with some authority. But I can honestly say that I regret living long enough to read that news report.
A Dutch Jewish family and their friends hid from the Nazis in an attic. For unclear reasons, they were discovered. The mother died in Auschwitz. Anne and her older sister died in Bergen-Belsen shortly before the concentration camp was liberated by British troops. The father was the only survivor, a dubious blessing. Anne was 15.
Anne’s diary was discovered and published, revealing an eloquent and sensitive young girl. Anti-Semites claim it is a forgery, written with a ball-point pen. Why would anyone go to the trouble of hand writing a forgery that was so easily discovered? But anti-Semites have no need to be logical. On the contrary, it is an advantage for them NOT to be logical.
But now the final nail in the coffin of human decency: A musical making Anne “Genderqueer, Afro-Latin Hip Hop.” Disparage her diary, deny her martyrdom, then spit on her grave – if she had a grave. What next? A musical “reimagining” Hitler as a guy who worked for the phone company?
Count me out. I’d rather stay home and watch a colonoscopy training video.
