Make Up Your Minds

• Woman in Minnesota attempts to run over ICE agents with her car. Agents shoot and kill her. Democrats yell and scream. How dare federal agents act to protect themselves from assault with a deadly weapon? How dare they use violence on someone who is trying to kill them? What a gang of Nazis and fascists! Disgraceful!

Get ICE out of Minnesota, they yell. Somali fraudsters, no problem. But federal law-enforcement agents, never!

• On Jan. 6, Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt enters Capitol Building through unlocked, open door, while Capitol Police motion demonstrators in. She attempts to climb through broken glass in door that others had broken. Capital police lieutenant shoots Ashli in neck, and she bleeds out on floor.

She harms no one nor attempts to do so. After she died a 3-inch folding knife reportedly is found folded in her pocket, but no one saw it before. To say she was “armed” is a ridiculous lie.

No illegal assembly was declared, so they were not rioters. They were motioned in, so they were not trespassers. Those who broke things or attacked people were committing crimes, but the others were doing nothing that they could have known was illegal.

Yet Democrats call Ashli a “traitor,” an “insurrectionist,” and an “armed” criminal who wanted to “kill cops.” The officer who shot her is returned to duty, and is said to have been “doing his job.” But if so, what is his job? Surely not protecting the public.

• Make up your minds. If shooting to death an unarmed, nonviolent demonstrator is quite all right, then shooting an attempted murderer cannot be an awful crime. Contradicting yourself is not the road to credibility.
