King Charles Says “NO!”

In the British system, an act of Parliament cannot become law without the royal assent. That is, the monarch must sign it. Normally this is just a formality.

But in this case, Prime Minister Starmer presented a bill calling for digital ID, facial recognition, and similar attacks on civil liberties. The whole thing looked like a combination of sci-fi and “1984.” King Charles consulted noted constitutional scholars, came to a negative conclusion, and said a loud “NO!”

A few years ago, the parliament of heavily Catholic Luxembourg passed a bill enabling assisted suicide and euthanasia. The Grand Duke, who like Charles is a figurehead, refused to sign it. In response, the Luxembourg parliament removed the requirement for the Grand Duke’s assent.

Will the UK parliament do the same? They can, you know. The UK has no written constitution. When they say “constitution,” they mean tradition. But with immigrants running rampant in the streets, what does tradition mean?

The Grand Duke of Luxembourg is a hero of the pro-life movement, but has no real power. Will King Charles join him on the medal platform of the Admired But Powerless Olympics? Or will Charles prevail, kick out the Prime Minister, dissolve Parliament, call for new elections, and restore the rights of Englishmen? Stay tuned to this fascinating drama.

God save the King!
