“Use Lethal Drug On Patients”?

A CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) is a nurse who received advanced training and is certified to administer anesthesia to patients under the supervision of a physician.

One CRNA posted on social media that she was considering giving a paralytic drug to ICE agents, a drug that would stop their  breathing and cause them to suffocate while conscious. That is, this would be both lethal and cruel.

Angel of mercy or angel of death?

Contrast this seeping of politics into health care with a historical note. Before World War II, Hitler developed a “singer’s nodule,” a small, benign bump on a vocal cord. All his shrieking finally got to him.

To operate on Hitler, his aides contacted Professor von Neumann in Vienna, the leading ENT man in Europe and one of my father’s teachers. Neumann was a Jew. But the Nazis trusted that because he was a health care professional, he would do his best – which was the best.

In the end, Neumann declined the offer, afraid that if the operation failed, the Nazis would take it out on Jews in general. The operation was performed by a German surgeon, and Hitler continued to shriek.

The point is that even Nazis could trust a Jew with their leader’s life, because the man was a health care professional. The Hippocratic Oath meant something.

But now, politics has infected health care to the extent that a nurse can openly declare her intention to murder patients with whom she disagrees. Too sad for words. Too dangerous to allow.
