“Energy Poverty” In California

When crypto-communist Chancellor Angela Merkel closed down Germany’s nuclear power plants, the nation had to rely on inadequate coal-fired plants. How this benefited the environment is difficult to say.

But what is not difficult to say is that energy costs skyrocketed. As a result, many Germans suffer from Energiearmut, energy poverty. They can barely afford to keep their lights on at night. Interestingly, that is exactly what Barack Obama promised when he ran for president the first time, that energy prices would “skyrocket.” People voted for him anyhow.

California used to be the Golden State. Now not so much. Gasoline and diesel prices are already over a dollar above prices elsewhere in the nation. Of course, this raises the price of everything that arrives by truck, train, or plane.

But now Valero announces that it will join Philips 66 and close its California refinery. California taxes and regulations were too much to bear. Check this out:

“Economists at University of California, Davis estimate a $1.20 per gallon increase by summer 2026. Translation: your usual 15 gallon fill up goes from $70 to $95+.”

Californians are learning the meaning of energy poverty. And if Democrats get their way, all Americans will follow them in this painful learning experience.

Germans make good cars, good guns, and good knives. But energy poverty is not an item that we want to import.
