What You Stand For Says A Lot

As President Trump delivered his state-of-the-union address, he introduced the grieving mother of Iryna Zarutska, the young woman who was brutally stabbed to death on a commuter train. Iryna had escaped the war in Ukraine, but she could not escape the murderer who had benefited from early release.

Republicans rose to their feet to honor Iryna’s memory. But Democrats sat on their hands. They hated Trump more than they honored the mother of the dead girl. That says everything we need to know.

All right, they didn’t stand for Iryna and her mother. So what did they stand for?

They stood for the high and rising rates of violent crime, as they pushed defunding the police, lighter sentences, and cashless bail – that is, no bail at all.

They stood for tens of millions of unvetted, unknown immigrants coming illegally across our non-borders.

They stood for the constant undermining of our nation, and of the values upon which it was founded.

Oh yes, they had no trouble standing for a lot of things that should have been intolerable. But Iryna and her mother? No, their legs suddenly weakened, and they could not rise.

Correction: It wasn’t their legs that weakened. It was their moral fiber. That just fell apart like a cheap tee shirt in hot water.
