Don’t Count The Brits Out Yet
Here is a man in a suit and tie, quite British, climbing a ladder to affix a Saint George’s Cross flag to a lamp post.
Perhaps the man remembers that at the start of World War II, Britain stood alone against the Nazis. France had fallen, the U.S. had not yet entered the war, and the Soviet Union had actually signed a non-aggression treaty with Hitler.
Yes, thousands of troops from other nations, especially aviators, had come to Britain to join the fighting. But only because Britain was still there to receive them. Britain was an island of light in a darkening world.
Are those bulldog Brits gone for good? To quote Shakespeare, is their mettle bred out? Are Prime Minister Starmer with is pro-immigration policies, and King Charles with his Islamic garden, portents of a dismal future?
Or is the well-dressed man on the ladder a sign of a reborn Britain? Too soon to tell, but stay tuned. The referee is counting, but he hasn’t reached 10, and the old fighter is stirring.
