You Don’t Lose Friends, You Just Find Out You Never Had Them

Ever had the experience of thinking you had a friend, but when you really needed him, he was gone? You didn’t lose a friend. You just discovered who really was one.

Fortunately, I was just on the boss’s hit list. It was nothing really serious. But it was instructive to see who pretended to check their watch, then get up from the lunch table with their food half eaten, so as not to give the impression they were with me.

And then there was the guy who continued to munch his sandwich at a leisurely pace. He wasn’t the easiest guy to get along with. He had an abrasive sense of humor. But he was a born rebel. If other people left, he would stay, just to be a nonconformist.

That’s the guy you want as a real friend. He’ll stick by you when others desert. He’ll help you keep the Strait of Hormuz open when others don’t want to get involved. You’re lucky to know him.
